Square jaw slimming in Seoul

A wide, angular lower face is often shaped by strong chewing muscles rather than bone alone. We assess muscle, fat and structure first, then plan a softer, more tapered contour that still suits your face.

What a square jaw is

A square jaw describes a lower face that is wide at the angles, just below the ears, rather than tapering gently towards the chin. For some people it is a feature they like; for others it makes the face look broader or heavier than they want, particularly in front-facing photos. The softer, tapered shape often called a V-line is a popular goal in Korea and among international visitors, but the aim at Obliv is always balance with your own features rather than a single template.

Why it happens and which layers are involved

Several layers can create a square appearance, and the mix differs from person to person. In our 8-layer Skin Architecture model:

  • Muscle. The masseter — the main chewing muscle at the angle of the jaw — is often the biggest factor. Clenching, grinding teeth at night, chewing gum or tough foods can make it bulkier over time. You can often feel it bulge when you bite down.
  • Bone. The shape and angle of the jaw bone set the basic framework. Bone shape itself is not changed by non-surgical treatment, but how the soft tissue sits over it can be.
  • Subcutaneous fat. Fat along the lower cheeks and jaw can add width or blur the taper.
  • Dermis and fascia. As skin and support tissue loosen with age, tissue can settle along the jaw, adding to the heavy look — see sagging jowls .

How Obliv approaches a square jaw

  • Diagnosis first. A director examines the jaw at rest and while you clench, feels the muscle, and looks at fat and skin, so we know how much width comes from muscle versus other layers.
  • Relaxing the muscle. Jawline (masseter) Botox relaxes the overactive chewing muscle. As it becomes less bulky, the lower face can look slimmer and more tapered. This is the core of contour Botox for square jaws and V-line shaping.
  • Reducing fullness. Where fat adds width, Onda microwave energy selectively heats fat below the cheeks and under the chin.
  • Defining the line. If loosening skin softens the contour, HIFU or RF lifting can tighten the jawline. A small amount of chin filler can lengthen the chin and enhance the tapered shape when proportions suit it.

What to expect

Botox begins to act within 3–7 days and peaks at around 2 weeks, but the visible slimming in the masseter happens more gradually, over several weeks, as the muscle reduces in bulk. The effect typically lasts around 4–6 months, and many people plan regular maintenance. Some notice chewing feels slightly different at first. On the day, avoid touching the area for 4–6 hours and skip sauna, alcohol and strenuous exercise. Downtime is usually minimal. Results vary from person to person, and your doctor will explain how much change to expect given your bone structure.

Keeping results

  • Reduce clenching triggers where you can; mention night grinding at consultation.
  • Cut back on gum chewing and very tough foods.
  • Schedule top-ups before the muscle fully regains its strength.

Visiting from abroad

Masseter Botox is quick and low-downtime, so it fits easily into a short trip. Because slimming develops over weeks, you will see the full change at home. Message us on WhatsApp with front-facing photos and your dates.

Is it muscle, fat or bone? A quick guide

Before booking, it can help to understand which factor is most likely shaping your jaw. Your doctor will confirm this at consultation, but these simple checks give a rough idea:

  • Muscle: place your fingers just in front of your earlobes and clench your teeth. If you feel a firm bulge push outwards, the masseter is likely contributing.
  • Fat: if the lower cheeks feel soft and full and the jaw looks rounder rather than angular, fat may be playing a bigger role.
  • Bone: if the width is at the angle of the jaw even when your face is relaxed and there is little bulk to feel, the bone shape may be the main factor.

Many people have a combination, which is why a plan can include more than one treatment. If an overall slimmer look is your goal, our slimmer face page explains how these steps can be combined over time.

Questions about a square jaw

  • Is my square jaw caused by muscle or bone?

Often a mix. Your doctor will feel the masseter while you clench and assess bone, fat and skin. Muscle-related width usually responds to Botox; bone shape itself is not changed by non-surgical treatment.

  • When will my face look slimmer?

Botox starts acting within 3–7 days, but visible slimming develops gradually over several weeks as the muscle reduces in bulk. Results vary from person to person.

  • Will it affect chewing?

Some people notice chewing feels slightly different at first, especially with tough foods. This usually settles. Your doctor will tailor the dose to your muscle strength.

  • How often do I need treatment?

The effect typically lasts around 4–6 months. Many people maintain it with regular top-ups, and over time the interval may be adjusted by your doctor.
