What a slimmer face really means
When people ask for a slimmer face, they rarely mean thinner overall. Usually they want the lower face to look lighter and more tapered — a narrower jaw angle from the front, less fullness under the chin and along the lower cheeks, and a cleaner contour from the side. Done well, the result looks natural and balanced with the rest of your features.
The cause of width varies a great deal. Strong chewing muscles can widen the angle of the jaw. Localised fat under the chin or in the lower cheeks can round the face. Loose skin and descended fat can make the lower face look heavier with age. Bone structure plays a part too, and that cannot be changed without surgery. Most people have a combination, which is why one treatment rarely suits everyone.
Which layers are involved
Using our 8-layer Skin Architecture model, slimming focuses on three layers:
- Muscle: an overactive masseter muscle makes the jaw look square. Relaxing it can narrow the lower face from the front.
- Subcutaneous fat: fat under the chin and below the cheeks softens the outline. Selective heating can help reduce it.
- Dermis and SMAS: loose support layers allow tissue to drop and widen the lower face. Tightening helps the contour sit higher.
A director examines your face from the front and side, and feels the masseter as you clench, to judge how much each layer contributes.
Building a plan
A slimming plan usually draws on the Volume·Shape and Contour programmes:
- Relax the jaw muscle. Jawline (masseter) Botox relaxes an overactive chewing muscle. It begins to work within 3–7 days, peaks at about two weeks and typically lasts around 4–6 months. Gradual slimming of the muscle can continue over the following weeks.
- Reduce localised fat. Onda uses microwave energy to selectively heat fat under the chin and below the cheeks.
- Tighten and lift. OLIGIO HIFU or Ultherapy PRIME reach down to the SMAS; RF devices such as Thermage tighten the dermis so the slimmer contour holds.
- Balance the profile. Sometimes a slightly recessed chin makes the face look wider; chin filler can lengthen the profile for a more tapered shape.
Many people only need one or two of these. Your doctor will recommend the smallest plan that addresses what is actually creating width.
Timeline before a trip or event
Jaw Botox needs about two weeks to reach its peak, and the slimming effect can keep developing after that, so start at least four to six weeks before an event if possible. Energy lifting results are noticeable after 1–3 months and final at 3–6 months. Fat reduction also works gradually. For a short stay in Seoul, Botox and one energy treatment can usually be done in a single visit, with the changes continuing after you return home.
Keeping your results
- Repeat jaw Botox roughly every few months as your doctor advises; results typically last around 4–6 months.
- HIFU typically lasts around 12–18 months, RF around 6–12 months.
- On the day of injections, avoid touching the area for 4–6 hours and skip sauna, alcohol and strenuous exercise.
Results vary from person to person. Your Skin Library record keeps every dose and device on file.
How slimming fits with other facial goals
A slimmer lower face rarely exists in isolation, and the doctor will look at how it affects the rest of your features. Slimming the jaw too much on a face that has already lost cheek volume can make it look gaunt rather than refined, so some people benefit from a little support higher up at the same time. Others find that what they really want is a defined edge along the jaw, which our sharper jawline page covers, or a softly tapered shape, described on the V-line face page.
Talking through your priorities at consultation, with photos from different angles, helps the doctor choose the right balance. Results vary from person to person.

Questions about a slimmer face
How do I know if my face is wide because of muscle or fat?
A doctor can usually tell by examining your face and feeling the masseter as you clench. Muscle-related width sits at the angle of the jaw, while fat tends to soften the area under the chin and lower cheeks. Many people have both.
Will jaw Botox affect chewing?
Some people notice slightly less chewing strength for a short time, especially with tough foods. This usually settles. Your doctor will discuss what to expect for your dose.
Can bone structure be changed without surgery?
No. Non-surgical treatments work on muscle, fat and skin, not bone. Filler can improve balance, for example at the chin, but the underlying skeleton stays the same.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the treatments and areas involved. Ask us on WhatsApp for a personalised quote.
