Potenza RF microneedling in Seoul
Potenza combines fine microneedles with radiofrequency energy to work on enlarged pores and acne scars from just below the surface. At Obliv a director decides the depth and settings for your skin, with barrier care before and after.
What Potenza is and how it works
Potenza is an RF (radiofrequency) microneedling device. Very fine needles enter the skin to a set depth and release radiofrequency energy at their tips. Two things happen at once: the tiny channels prompt the skin's natural repair response, and the controlled heat delivered beneath the surface encourages the dermis to remodel and tighten. Because the energy is released inside the skin rather than on top of it, the surface is spared much of the heat, which is one reason recovery is relatively short compared with full resurfacing.
In our Skin Renewal programme, Potenza sits in the group of treatments for pores and scars , alongside CO2 laser resurfacing . The two work in different ways, and choosing between them — or combining them — is part of the consultation.
Which layer it targets and who it suits
Using our 8-layer Skin Architecture model, Potenza mainly works in the upper and full-thickness dermis , where collagen structure determines how pores and scars look on the surface. Enlarged pores often reflect loose support around the pore walls; atrophic acne scars are areas where collagen was lost during inflammation. Stimulating repair at that depth can help improve both.
Potenza may suit you if you have:
- Enlarged or stretched-looking pores, especially on the cheeks and nose
- Rolling or shallow boxcar acne scars
- Uneven, rough texture after past breakouts
- Limited time for recovery and want a shorter downtime option
Active acne, infection or a very irritated barrier usually needs to be calmed first. A doctor examines your skin before any decision is made.
What happens on the day
Your visit starts with a director's consultation. Mark-Vu imaging helps map pores, texture, redness and oil–moisture balance, and the findings are saved to your Skin Library record so later sessions can be compared. If the barrier is fragile, we reinforce it with ingredients such as ceramides and hyaluronic acid before treatment.
A numbing cream is applied, and the doctor then treats the areas planned, adjusting needle depth and energy for different zones — for example deeper over scars and shallower over thinner skin. Afterwards the skin is soothed and a barrier-protecting step is applied. You can relax in Café Obliv Ansik before heading out.
Downtime, results and how long they last
Potenza has short downtime . Redness, a feeling of warmth and some small pinpoint marks are common for a short period; your doctor will tell you what to expect for the settings used. Most people can return to normal plans soon afterwards, with careful sun protection.
Results build gradually because collagen remodelling takes time. Skin cells renew roughly every 28 days, and the dermis continues to respond for weeks after each session. For acne scars a course of typically 3–5 sessions, about 4–6 weeks apart , is common. Pore treatment plans vary. Results vary from person to person, and the doctor will review your progress at each visit.
Often combined with
- Skin boosters or Rejuran to support regeneration in the upper dermis
- CO2 laser for deeper, sharper-edged scars that need resurfacing
- Barrier reinforcement care before and after sessions
- pH-5.5-matched prescribed home care between visits
See how these fit together in our Acne Scar Program and Pore Refining Program .
Is Potenza right for me?
Potenza is a good fit when the concern sits in the dermis and you want texture improvement with manageable recovery. If your scars are deep and well-defined, the doctor may suggest CO2 resurfacing instead or as well. If the main issue is pigment rather than texture, a pigment laser such as PICOALEX may be more appropriate. If skin is red and reactive, we may start with calming and barrier care first.
For international visitors
Because downtime is short, Potenza can work within a trip to Seoul. Ideally, plan your first session early in your stay so the doctor can check your skin before you fly. For a full scar course, you can return for later sessions on future visits. Send clear daylight photos and your travel dates on WhatsApp, and we will suggest a realistic plan. Questions about Potenza
Does Potenza hurt?
A numbing cream is applied before treatment, and most people describe a prickling, warm sensation. Comfort varies with the area and the depth used. Tell the doctor during treatment if you need settings adjusted.
How many Potenza sessions will I need?
For acne scars, a course of typically 3–5 sessions spaced about 4–6 weeks apart is common. Pore plans vary depending on your skin. Your doctor will suggest a number after examining you, and results vary from person to person.
Can I go sightseeing after Potenza?
Downtime is short, so many visitors continue their plans soon afterwards. Expect some redness for a short time, avoid heavy make-up as advised, and use SPF50+ sunscreen and a hat outdoors.
Should I choose Potenza or CO2 laser for acne scars?
Potenza works beneath the surface with short downtime and suits many rolling and shallow scars. CO2 resurfacing is often considered for deeper scars but needs more recovery. The doctor decides based on scar type and depth, and sometimes combines both.
