Thermage FLX skin tightening in Seoul
Thermage uses monopolar radiofrequency to warm the whole dermis evenly, helping skin feel firmer and look smoother. It is one of the tools we use when laxity sits in the skin itself rather than the deeper support layers.
What Thermage FLX is and how it works
Thermage is a monopolar radiofrequency (RF) treatment. Where focused ultrasound concentrates energy into tiny points, RF spreads heat evenly through a volume of tissue. Thermage works to a depth of around 3.0 mm, warming the dermis to roughly 65–75°C. This heat causes existing collagen fibres to contract, which many people feel as an immediate firmness, and it prompts the skin to rebuild collagen gradually over the following months.
Because the heat is distributed across the full thickness of the dermis, Thermage is particularly suited to tightening the skin as a whole — improving the feel of crepey or slightly loose skin, softening fine lines and refining the overall surface.
Which layer it targets and who it suits
In our 8-layer Skin Architecture model, Thermage focuses on the full-thickness dermis — the collagen-rich layer that gives skin its density and spring. With age, collagen falls by roughly 1% a year from around the age of 20, and UV exposure accelerates that loss. The result is skin that feels thinner, looser and less resilient, even before there is obvious sagging.
Thermage is often considered for:
- Skin that has lost firmness and elasticity
- Fine lines and a crepey feel on the cheeks, jawline or around the eyes
- An early softening of facial contour
- People who want a gradual, natural-looking tightening
When sagging starts deeper, in the fascia or SMAS, focused ultrasound such as Ultherapy PRIME or OLIGIO HIFU is usually more appropriate — and often combined with Thermage.
What happens on the day
Your visit starts with a director consultation. We assess where your laxity begins, with Mark-Vu imaging helping to record skin condition, and every treatment is saved in your Skin Library so future visits can build on it. The doctor decides the depth first and only then chooses the device.
The face is cleansed, a temporary grid may be marked to guide even coverage, and the handpiece is moved across the skin in passes. Each pulse delivers a deep warmth, while the device cools the surface to protect the epidermis. Sensations vary from person to person, and the energy can be adjusted for comfort. Barrier-protecting care is applied once the session is finished.
Downtime, results and how long they last
Thermage generally has little downtime. Some redness or mild swelling can appear and usually settles within hours to a day, so most people return to their plans straight away.
- Immediately: a firmer, tighter feeling as collagen contracts
- 1–3 months: improvement becomes more noticeable
- 3–6 months: final result as new collagen forms
- Duration: RF results typically last around 6–12 months
Results vary from person to person, and maintenance sessions help keep the effect.
Often combined with
Thermage pairs naturally with HIFU: the ultrasound addresses the deep support layer and Thermage tightens the skin above it. You can read more on our Ultherapy + Thermage combination page. Adding a collagen stimulator can help extend skin quality over the longer term, and skin boosters support hydration.
Is it right for me?
Thermage works best when laxity is mild to moderate and the skin still has a good capacity to rebuild collagen. If hollowing or volume loss is the main issue, filler or a collagen stimulator may be a better first step; if sagging is advanced, HIFU or threads may be discussed. Medical history, implanted devices, pregnancy and recent procedures are reviewed before anything is planned.

- Arrive without heavy make-up if possible, to save time on cleansing.
- After treatment, use daily SPF and the prescribed home care to protect the skin barrier.

Questions about Thermage FLX
What is the difference between Thermage and Ultherapy?
Thermage uses radiofrequency to heat the whole dermis evenly, tightening the skin itself. Ultherapy uses focused ultrasound to reach deeper support layers. They work at different depths, which is why they are often combined.
Does Thermage hurt?
Most people feel deep warmth with each pulse, while the device cools the surface. Comfort varies from person to person, and the doctor can adjust the energy during the session.
When will I see results?
Some firmness is often felt right away. Improvement usually becomes more noticeable over 1–3 months, with the final result at around 3–6 months as new collagen forms.
How often should Thermage be repeated?
RF results typically last around 6–12 months, so many people plan maintenance roughly once a year. Your doctor will suggest timing based on your skin and any other treatments in your plan.
