A V-line face, without surgery

A V-line is a softly tapered lower face with a defined jaw and a balanced chin. We build it layer by layer — muscle, fat, support and structure — so the result looks like you, only more defined.

What a V-line really means

The "V-line" describes a lower face that narrows gently from the cheekbones to a defined chin, with a clean jawline in between. It is a popular goal in Korea and among visitors to Seoul, but it is not one look for everyone. For some people it means softening a wide, square jaw; for others it means tightening a jawline that has started to blur, reducing fullness under the chin, or bringing a recessed chin forward so the face looks balanced in profile.

Because different faces reach the same goal in different ways, the first step is understanding why your lower face looks wider or less defined than you would like.

Which layers are involved

Using our 8-layer Skin Architecture model, a V-line can involve several layers at once:

  • Muscle — a strong masseter (chewing muscle) can make the jaw look square
  • Subcutaneous fat — fullness under the chin or along the lower cheeks softens the outline
  • Fascia and dermis — loosening support lets tissue descend and blur the jawline
  • Bone and structure — a short or recessed chin can make the lower face look wide or undefined

A director examines your face from the front and in profile to decide which of these matter for you.

Building a plan

Most V-line plans combine treatments, each matched to a layer:

  • Relax a strong jaw muscle. Jawline (masseter) Botox relaxes an overactive masseter and is commonly used for square-jaw contouring. It starts working in 3–7 days, peaks around 2 weeks, and the slimming effect on the jaw develops gradually as the muscle relaxes. Effects typically last around 4–6 months.
  • Reduce localised fat. Onda uses microwave energy to selectively heat fat under the chin and below the cheeks.
  • Tighten and lift the outline. HIFU such as Ultherapy PRIME or OLIGIO HIFU works on deep support layers, while RF tightens the dermis.
  • Balance the chin. Chin filler can project or lengthen the chin, completing the V shape.
  • Add lift where needed. Thread lifts such as MINT Lift provide immediate lift along the jaw.

Order matters. Following our dual-plane principle, structural support is considered first, then fat and laxity, with muscle relaxation tailored around them. The doctor will explain the sequence for your face.

Timeline before a trip or event

If you have a date in mind, plan ahead. Jawline Botox needs a couple of weeks to reach its peak, with the contour change developing gradually. Energy lifting shows noticeable change over 1–3 months and final results at 3–6 months. Filler and threads give more immediate change, though some swelling or bruising may need a few days to settle. On the day of injections, avoid touching the area for 4–6 hours and skip sauna, alcohol and strenuous exercise.

Keeping results

V-line results are maintained rather than permanent. Botox is usually repeated every few months, HIFU results tend to last around 12–18 months, and HA filler around 6–18 months depending on product and area. Your Skin Library record helps keep each touch-up consistent. Results vary from person to person.

For international visitors

Many V-line treatments fit into a short stay. Book injections early in your trip so any swelling settles before you fly. Send front and side photos on WhatsApp, and ask us for a personalised quote.

Common mistakes to avoid

A V-line can easily be overdone. A few pitfalls the doctor will help you avoid:

  • Treating only the jaw muscle. If fullness comes from fat or laxity, Botox alone may not change the outline much.
  • Over-slimming. Narrowing the jaw too far on a face with thin cheeks can look hollow rather than tapered.
  • An over-projected chin. Chin filler works best when it balances your profile, not when it becomes the focal point.
  • Expecting a single session to do everything. The best results usually come from a few modest steps over several months.

If your main aim is to reduce overall width rather than shape the chin, our slimmer face page explains that approach. Results vary from person to person.

Questions about the V-line

  • Can I get a V-line without surgery?

Many people can achieve a more tapered, defined lower face with non-surgical treatments such as jawline Botox, Onda, HIFU lifting and chin filler. How much change is possible depends on your face, and the doctor will be honest about what is realistic.

  • Which treatment works fastest?

Chin filler and thread lifts give more immediate change. Jawline Botox starts working within days and peaks around two weeks, while energy lifting develops over months. Many plans combine fast and gradual options.

  • Will jawline Botox affect chewing?

Some people notice their jaw tires a little more easily with tough foods for a short time as the muscle relaxes. This usually settles, and the doctor adjusts the dose to your muscle strength.

  • How long do V-line results last?

It depends on the treatments. Botox typically lasts around 4–6 months, HIFU around 12–18 months and HA filler around 6–18 months. Results vary from person to person, so a maintenance plan is usually discussed.
