Sun protection after treatment

Sunscreen is the simplest way to protect what your treatment set out to do. Here is how to stay protected while you explore Seoul and after you travel home.

Why sun protection matters so much after treatment

Ultraviolet light is one of the main triggers for pigment, and it also breaks down collagen over time. After treatment, skin is often more sensitive than usual: the barrier at the surface is recovering, and pigment cells can react more easily to light, heat and inflammation. For pigment concerns such as melasma , careless sun exposure can undo progress. For lifting and collagen treatments, UV works against the very collagen you are trying to build. That is why SPF50 or higher is part of every aftercare plan at Obliv, not an optional extra.

Which treatments need the strictest protection?

  • Laser and pigment treatments such as PICOALEX , BRIGHTONE and Nobleen toning . Pigment-focused skin is the most likely to react to sun.
  • Microneedling and resurfacing such as Potenza and CO2 laser , where the surface is actively healing.
  • Energy lifting and collagen stimulators. The surface may be less affected, but protecting collagen helps results last.
  • Injectables. Sun is less of a direct concern, but heat can increase swelling, so shade and a hat still help on the day.

How to use sunscreen properly

  1. Choose broad-spectrum SPF50 or higher. Look for protection against both UVA and UVB.
  2. Apply enough. Most people apply too little. Cover the whole face, including the hairline, ears and neck.
  3. Apply as the last step of your skincare, after your prescribed moisturiser and before any make-up your doctor has approved.
  4. Reapply. Reapply every couple of hours when outdoors, and after sweating, washing your face or wiping your skin.
  5. Be gentle. Pat sunscreen on rather than rubbing hard over treated skin.

If your skin is sensitive after treatment, ask the team which sunscreen texture is suitable. We prescribe pH-5.5-matched home care, and the right sunscreen should fit comfortably with that routine.

Sightseeing in Seoul after treatment

Many of Seoul's best sights are outdoors: palace grounds, the Cheonggyecheon stream right by the clinic, and busy shopping streets in Myeongdong. You do not need to stay inside, but a few habits help:

  • Wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses.
  • Plan outdoor visits for the morning or late afternoon and spend the brightest hours in museums, cafes or shops.
  • Carry sunscreen in your bag and set a reminder to reapply.
  • Remember that UV can be strong on cloudy days and reflects off water and pale paving.
  • Avoid saunas and very hot environments until your skin has settled.

Travelling home

UV can pass through car and aircraft windows. On daytime flights, close the window blind or reapply sunscreen. If you are flying somewhere with stronger sun than Seoul, be especially careful in the first weeks. Skin cells renew roughly every 28 days, so keep protection consistent through at least that first cycle — and ideally make it a daily habit for good.

Signs to watch for

Mild redness after sun exposure usually settles. If you notice new dark patches, persistent redness or irritation that does not improve, message us on WhatsApp with a photo. Your treatment details are recorded in your Skin Library, so the team can advise based on what you had. Results vary from person to person, and good sun habits are one of the most reliable ways to protect them.

Common sun mistakes to avoid

Even careful travellers slip up when a busy itinerary takes over. These are the habits we most often see working against a good result:

  • Relying on make-up with SPF. A light foundation layer rarely gives enough protection on its own. Use a dedicated sunscreen underneath once your doctor says make-up is fine.
  • Forgetting indoor-to-outdoor days. A morning in a shopping centre followed by an afternoon walking along Cheonggyecheon still adds up to real exposure.
  • Skipping the neck and ears. These areas are easy to miss and can show uneven tone later.
  • Stopping once the redness fades. Skin can look calm on the surface while it is still renewing underneath, so keep going through the full cycle.
  • Trying new actives straight away. Strong exfoliants can make treated skin more sun-sensitive. Stick to your prescribed home care until the team advises otherwise.

If you are unsure whether something in your routine is suitable, send us a quick photo of the product label on WhatsApp.

Questions about sun protection

  • Can I go outside after laser treatment?

Yes, with care. Use SPF50 or higher, wear a hat and sunglasses, reapply regularly and spend the brightest part of the day indoors where you can.

  • Is SPF30 enough after treatment?

We recommend broad-spectrum SPF50 or higher after treatment, because treated skin is more sensitive to UV and pigment can react more easily.

  • Can I use sunscreen straight after treatment?

In most cases, yes, but your doctor will tell you when and which type is suitable for your treated skin. Pat it on gently rather than rubbing.

  • How long do I need to be careful in the sun?

Be especially careful for at least the first 28-day skin cycle. For pigment concerns such as melasma, daily sun protection is best kept as a permanent habit.
