CO2 laser resurfacing in Seoul

CO2 laser resurfacing is one of the most thorough ways to rework deep scars and rough texture. It asks more of your recovery than lighter treatments, so at Obliv a director plans the depth, the timing and your aftercare with you from the start.

What CO2 laser resurfacing is

A CO2 laser removes and heats very fine areas of skin in a controlled way. The skin then rebuilds itself: new surface cells replace the treated ones, and the heat delivered deeper prompts the dermis to lay down fresh collagen. The result can be a smoother surface and softer scar edges as healing progresses. Because it physically resurfaces the skin, CO2 is considered for concerns that gentler treatments struggle to reach, such as deep or sharply defined acne scars.

Within our Skin Renewal programme, CO2 sits in the pores and scars group, next to Potenza RF microneedling . We also offer U-Pulse fractional CO2 , which is used for overall skin regeneration. Your doctor will explain which approach and which intensity fits your skin.

Which layer it targets and who it suits

In our 8-layer Skin Architecture model, CO2 resurfacing works through the epidermis and into the upper dermis , where scar edges and surface irregularities sit. Deeper scars often involve tethering and collagen loss lower in the dermis, which is why CO2 is sometimes combined with other tools rather than used alone.

CO2 laser may be considered if you have:

  • Deep or well-defined acne scars, including boxcar and ice pick types
  • Rough texture that has not responded well to lighter treatments
  • Surgical or injury scars with an irregular surface, after a doctor's assessment
  • Enough time in your schedule to allow proper recovery

What happens on the day

The visit begins with a consultation with a director. Mark-Vu imaging helps record texture, pores, pigment and redness, and the results go into your Skin Library so progress can be compared later. Because resurfacing places demands on the skin, the barrier matters: if it is weak, we reinforce it first with ingredients such as ceramides and hyaluronic acid, sometimes over a preparation period before treatment.

On treatment day a numbing cream is applied. The doctor treats the planned areas, varying intensity between scars and surrounding skin. Afterwards the skin is cooled and covered with a barrier-protecting layer, and you receive clear written aftercare instructions.

Downtime, results and how long they last

CO2 resurfacing needs recovery time . Redness, swelling and a crusted or rough surface are expected while the skin renews, and the exact course depends on the intensity used. Your doctor will tell you how many days to set aside before you are comfortable in public and when make-up can be used.

Results continue to develop after the surface heals, because collagen remodelling in the dermis takes weeks to months. For acne scars, a course of typically 3–5 sessions spaced about 4–6 weeks apart of Potenza or CO2 is common, and many plans mix the two. Results vary from person to person. Strict sun protection with SPF50+ is essential afterwards, because newly healed skin is more prone to pigmentation.

Is CO2 right for me?

CO2 is a strong option when scars are deep and you can allow healing time. If you have little time, the doctor may suggest starting with Potenza. If your skin is prone to pigment after inflammation, or currently has active acne or irritation, we may calm and prepare it first. Pigment-only concerns are usually better suited to a pigment laser such as PICOALEX .

For international visitors

Plan CO2 at the start of your stay, not just before your flight, so the skin can heal while you are still in Seoul and the doctor can check it. Avoid booking beach holidays or strong sun exposure straight afterwards. Send daylight photos and your dates on WhatsApp, and ask us for a personalised quote.

Questions about CO2 laser

  • How much downtime should I plan for?

CO2 resurfacing needs real recovery time, and how long depends on the intensity the doctor uses. Expect redness, some swelling and a rough or crusted surface while the skin renews. Your doctor will give you a realistic timeline for your settings at consultation.

  • Is CO2 better than Potenza for acne scars?

Neither is better for everyone. CO2 resurfaces the surface and is often considered for deeper, sharp-edged scars, while Potenza works beneath the surface with shorter downtime. Many scar plans use both at different stages.

  • Can CO2 laser cause pigmentation?

Healing skin can be more prone to darkening, especially with sun exposure or in skin that tends to mark after inflammation. That is why we prepare the barrier, choose settings carefully and ask you to use SPF50+ strictly afterwards.

  • Can I fly soon after CO2 treatment?

It is better to have CO2 early in your stay so the skin can heal and be checked before you fly. Cabin air is dry, so keep up the moisturising and barrier care we prescribe during the journey.
