Scalp problems care in Seoul

An oily, flaky, itchy or easily irritated scalp is skin that needs care, just like your face. Our Scalp Clinic starts with a doctor's examination and focuses on restoring a calm, balanced scalp.

Common scalp problems

The scalp is skin, with the same layers, barrier and oil glands as the face — plus a dense population of hair follicles. When its balance is disturbed, people tend to notice one or more of the following:

  • Oiliness. Hair looks flat or greasy soon after washing, and the scalp may feel heavy.
  • Flaking. White or yellowish flakes on the scalp or shoulders, sometimes with redness.
  • Itching or tingling. Persistent discomfort that tempts you to scratch.
  • Sensitivity. Stinging or redness after colouring, new products or sun exposure.
  • Dryness and tightness. A scalp that feels taut, especially in dry seasons.
  • Odour or build-up. Often linked to excess oil and product residue.

Scalp problems can affect comfort and confidence, and an unbalanced scalp may also be a less favourable environment for healthy hair. They are worth taking seriously.

Why they happen

Several factors often overlap. Oil production is influenced by hormones, stress and climate. The scalp barrier can be weakened by washing too often or too rarely, very hot water, harsh shampoos, chemical treatments and heat styling. Sweat and product build-up can irritate the skin. Some scalp conditions have a medical cause that needs proper diagnosis — which is why a doctor examines the scalp before anything else is recommended.

How Obliv approaches scalp problems

Scalp care takes place at our dedicated Scalp Clinic on the 3rd floor of Pagoda Tower.

  • Doctor-led examination. A doctor looks closely at your scalp, asks about your symptoms, routine and history, and identifies what kind of imbalance you have. If anything suggests a condition that needs medical treatment, the doctor will explain this and advise you on the next steps.
  • Barrier first. Our skin philosophy applies here too: a calm, well-supported barrier comes before more targeted treatment. The first goal is usually to reduce irritation and bring oil and moisture back into balance.
  • Targeted in-clinic care. The doctor will recommend appropriate scalp treatments for your situation and explain how they work and how often they are needed.
  • Prescribed home care. As with our prescribed home care for the face, we recommend a routine you can follow between visits, so improvements are maintained.
  • A record over time. Treatments are logged in your Skin Library, so progress can be tracked and the plan refined.

What to expect

Many people notice the scalp feels more comfortable after the first visits, but lasting balance usually takes a series of sessions and consistent home care. Results vary from person to person, and the doctor will review progress with you.

Everyday scalp care

  • Wash with lukewarm rather than hot water and rinse thoroughly.
  • Choose gentle products and avoid switching between many new ones at once.
  • Dry the scalp properly after washing rather than leaving it damp for long periods.
  • Try not to scratch; tell your doctor if itching persists.
  • Protect your parting from strong sun.

Visiting from abroad

Travel, a change of climate and hotel products can all upset a sensitive scalp. A consultation can easily fit into a stay, and the Scalp Clinic is open Monday to Friday 10:00–21:00 and weekends 10:00–19:00. We can give you a home routine to continue afterwards. Message us on WhatsApp with photos and your travel dates.

How scalp health connects to your hair

Many people first visit the Scalp Clinic because of flakes or itching, then ask whether their scalp is affecting their hair. The two are closely linked. Hair grows from follicles that sit within the scalp skin, so persistent inflammation, heavy build-up or a disturbed barrier can make the environment around those follicles less comfortable.

Calming the scalp does not replace medical assessment of hair loss, but it is often a useful foundation. If you have noticed more shedding, a widening parting or finer hair, mention it at consultation. The doctor can look at both concerns together and explain whether further evaluation is needed. Questions about scalp problems

  • Is my flaky scalp just dandruff?

It may be, but flaking can have several causes, including dryness, irritation and conditions that need medical care. A doctor examines the scalp first so the plan matches the cause.

  • Can scalp care help with hair thinning?

A healthier scalp environment can support healthier hair, but thinning has many possible causes. If thinning is a concern, the doctor will assess it as part of your consultation.

  • How often should I wash an oily scalp?

It depends on your scalp and lifestyle. Over-washing with harsh products can make things worse, so your doctor will suggest a routine and suitable products.

  • Will I need several visits?

Usually yes, as scalp balance improves over time. If you are visiting Seoul briefly, we focus on a clear home routine and plan further care for future trips.
