Hair thinning care in Seoul

Thinning hair has many possible causes, so it deserves a proper medical look rather than a one-size-fits-all product. Our Scalp Clinic starts with a doctor's assessment and builds a plan around what is actually happening.

What hair thinning is

Hair thinning describes a gradual reduction in hair density or in the thickness of individual strands. You might notice a wider parting, more scalp showing under bright light, a smaller ponytail, a receding hairline or more hair than usual on your pillow or in the shower. It affects both men and women and can begin at any adult age.

Thinning is different from normal daily shedding: everyone loses some hair every day as part of the natural growth cycle. When shedding increases noticeably, or new hair grows back finer, it is worth having the scalp examined.

Why it happens

Hair grows from follicles that sit in the deeper layers of the scalp skin, so the health of the scalp itself matters. Common contributing factors include:

  • Genetics and hormones. Pattern thinning often runs in families and is influenced by hormones.
  • Stress, illness or major life changes. These can push more hairs into the shedding phase at once, sometimes a few months after the event.
  • Scalp condition. Excess oil, flaking, inflammation or a disrupted scalp barrier can create a less favourable environment for healthy growth. See also scalp problems .
  • Nutrition and general health. Diet, certain medical conditions and some medicines can affect hair.
  • Styling habits. Tight hairstyles, frequent heat and harsh chemical treatments can stress the hair and scalp.

Because the causes vary so much, a doctor examines the scalp first. If anything suggests an underlying medical issue, we will explain this and advise you on appropriate further evaluation.

How Obliv approaches hair thinning

Hair and scalp concerns are looked after at our dedicated Scalp Clinic on the 3rd floor of Pagoda Tower.

  • Doctor-led assessment. A doctor examines your scalp and hair, asks about your history and pattern of thinning, and discusses what might be contributing.
  • Scalp health first. In the same way we strengthen the skin barrier before facial treatments, we focus on bringing the scalp into a calmer, healthier condition, because this is the foundation for any further care.
  • A plan for your situation. Depending on what is found, the doctor will recommend appropriate in-clinic scalp treatments and home care. The specific options and how often you would need them are explained at consultation.
  • Tracking progress. Every treatment is recorded in your Skin Library, our digital record, so changes can be compared over time and your plan adjusted.

What to expect

Hair grows slowly, so any improvement in scalp care is measured over months rather than days. Most people need a series of visits and consistent home care. Results vary from person to person, and some types of hair loss respond better than others — your doctor will be honest about what is realistic in your case.

Caring for your scalp at home

  • Use a gentle shampoo suited to your scalp type and rinse thoroughly.
  • Limit very hot styling tools and tight hairstyles.
  • Protect your scalp from strong sun, especially along the parting.
  • Follow any home-care routine your doctor prescribes and keep it consistent.

Visiting from abroad

An initial assessment fits easily into a trip, and the Scalp Clinic is open Monday to Friday 10:00–21:00 and weekends 10:00–19:00. We can suggest a home-care routine to continue after you leave and plan follow-up visits for future trips. Message us on WhatsApp with clear photos of your hairline and parting in good light, plus your travel dates.

When to see a doctor sooner

Gradual thinning is common, but some patterns of hair loss should be checked promptly by a doctor rather than waiting for a planned trip. Seek medical advice soon if you notice:

  • Sudden, heavy shedding or round, smooth bald patches
  • Hair loss together with scalp pain, burning, scaling, redness or pus
  • Thinning alongside other symptoms such as unusual tiredness, weight change or irregular periods
  • Hair loss that started after a new medicine or a recent illness

At the Scalp Clinic, the doctor will ask about these points during your assessment. Where something suggests an underlying medical cause, you will be advised on the appropriate next steps, which may include further tests with your own doctor. Questions about hair thinning

  • Can treatment regrow all my hair?

No treatment can promise that. Scalp care aims to improve the scalp environment and support healthier hair, and results vary from person to person. The doctor will explain what is realistic for your type of thinning.

  • Do I need to see a doctor first?

Yes. Hair thinning has many causes, so a doctor examines your scalp and history before recommending anything. If something suggests an underlying medical issue, we will advise you on further evaluation.

  • Is hair thinning care only for men?

Not at all. Women and men both experience thinning, often with different patterns and causes. The assessment and plan are tailored to you.

  • How often will I need to come back?

Most scalp plans involve a series of visits plus consistent home care, because hair changes slowly. If you live abroad, we will build a home routine and plan visits around future trips.
