A Healthy Scalp

The scalp is skin too, and healthy hair starts there. Our dedicated Scalp Clinic begins with a doctor's assessment before recommending any care.

What a healthy scalp really means

A healthy scalp is comfortable, neither excessively oily nor tight and flaky, free from persistent itching or irritation, and able to support the hair growing from it. When the scalp is out of balance, people often notice greasy roots by the afternoon, flakes on dark clothing, sensitivity, or hair that seems finer or sheds more than it used to.

The scalp is skin, with the same need for a stable barrier and a balanced environment as the face. Yet it is often treated with harsher products, washed in very hot water, and exposed to sun without protection. Travel, stress, changes in climate and hard water can also unsettle it.

A dedicated Scalp Clinic

Obliv Clinic Seoul Origin has a separate Scalp Clinic on the 3rd floor of Pagoda Tower. Scalp care here is doctor-led: your scalp and hair are assessed first, and the plan is based on what the doctor finds rather than on a standard package. If there are signs of a medical condition, or of hair thinning that needs a medical work-up, the doctor will explain this and advise on the right next step.

Which layers are involved

Our 8-layer Skin Architecture approach applies to the scalp as well. The epidermis holds the barrier, which is where oiliness, flaking and sensitivity show up. The dermis contains the hair follicles and the blood supply that supports them. Understanding which layer is involved helps the doctor choose between care that rebalances the surface and care aimed at the follicle environment beneath it.

Building a plan

1. Assessment

The doctor examines your scalp and hair and asks about your history: how long the concern has been present, recent changes in health or stress, hair products and styling, and any treatments you have already tried.

2. Rebalancing the scalp

For oiliness, flaking or sensitivity, the focus is usually on cleansing and calming the scalp and restoring its barrier. The specific in-clinic treatments are recommended by the doctor at consultation, matched to what the assessment shows.

3. Supporting the hair

Where thinning or shedding is part of the picture, the doctor will discuss options and set expectations. Scalp and hair respond slowly, so plans are usually built over a period of time rather than in a single visit.

4. Home care

Just as with facial skin, what you do at home matters. You will be advised on cleansing frequency, water temperature and products that suit your scalp type.

Timeline

Scalp comfort can improve relatively quickly once the barrier settles, but changes in the hair itself take longer, often several months, because hair grows in cycles. If you are visiting Seoul for a short time, a first assessment and treatment can still be useful, and the doctor can suggest how to continue care at home and when a follow-up visit would be worthwhile.

Keeping your scalp healthy

  • Wash with lukewarm rather than very hot water.
  • Rinse thoroughly; product residue can irritate the scalp.
  • Avoid scratching, even when itchy, to protect the barrier.
  • Protect your scalp from strong sun, especially along partings.
  • Keep a note of changes so the doctor can track progress over time.

Results vary from person to person. The Scalp Clinic is open Monday to Friday 10:00–21:00 and at weekends 10:00–19:00.

Preparing for your scalp assessment

A little preparation helps the doctor see your scalp as it normally is and makes the assessment more useful:

  • Washing. Ask when you book whether to arrive with freshly washed hair or after your usual interval; seeing the scalp in its typical state can reveal oil and flaking patterns.
  • Styling products. Avoid heavy gels, sprays or dry shampoo on the day so the scalp surface can be examined clearly.
  • History. Note when changes started, any recent illness, major stress, diet changes or new medications, and whether family members have experienced thinning.
  • Products. Bring photos of your shampoo and any scalp or hair treatments you use.

The Scalp Clinic is on the 3rd floor of the same building as the Skin & Body Clinic, so a scalp visit can often be combined with a skin appointment on the same day. See scalp care for more on what the clinic offers, or contact us for directions.

Scalp care: common questions

  • Do I need to see a doctor for scalp care?

At our Scalp Clinic, care starts with a doctor's assessment. This helps distinguish everyday imbalance from conditions that need medical attention, so the right care is chosen.

  • Can scalp care help with thinning hair?

A healthier scalp environment can support hair, but thinning has many causes. A doctor examines you first and explains what may help and what is realistic.

  • How long before I notice a difference?

Scalp comfort may improve within weeks. Changes in hair take longer, often several months, because hair grows in cycles. Results vary from person to person.

  • Should I wash my hair before my appointment?

The team will tell you when you book. Ask on WhatsApp, as preparation can depend on what the doctor needs to assess.
