What body contour goals really mean
Body contouring is about shape, not weight. Many people are close to where they want to be, yet have one or two areas — the lower abdomen, flanks, upper arms or thighs — that do not change with diet and exercise. Others have lost weight and are now more concerned with skin that feels loose or looks uneven.
Non-surgical contouring can help refine these areas, but it is not a substitute for weight loss, and it works best when expectations are clear from the start. At Obliv Clinic Seoul Origin a doctor assesses the area before recommending anything, and is honest when another approach would suit you better.
Which layers are involved
Our 8-layer Skin Architecture model was developed for the face, but the same thinking applies to the body. Contour concerns usually involve one or more of these:
- Subcutaneous fat: localised fat that sits beneath the skin and resists exercise.
- Dermis: skin laxity and texture, including crepey skin or changes after weight loss.
- Fascia and muscle: posture and muscle balance, which affect how the body's shape looks as much as fat does.
Working out which layer is driving your concern is the first step. Treating fat when the real issue is laxity, or vice versa, tends to disappoint.
Building a plan
Localised fat
Body Onda uses microwave energy to selectively heat fat for body contouring. On the face, the related Onda treatment is used for fullness under the chin and below the cheeks. The doctor decides which areas are suitable and how many sessions to plan, depending on your tissue and goals.
Skin firmness
Where the concern is loose skin rather than fat, energy-based tightening or collagen stimulation may be considered. The doctor will recommend the right option for the body area at consultation, as devices and settings differ from those used on the face.
Texture and cellulite
Dimpling and uneven texture usually involve the skin and the tissue beneath it. These are assessed individually, and the doctor will explain which approaches may help improve their appearance.
Posture and movement
Sometimes shape concerns are linked to posture or muscle imbalance. Our BodyLab on B1 offers rehabilitation medicine with doctor-led assessment, which can be a useful complement to aesthetic treatment.
Timeline before a trip or event
Body contouring works gradually as the body responds to treatment, so results are not instant. If you have a holiday, wedding or event in mind, talk to us well in advance so the doctor can suggest a realistic schedule. Sessions are planned around your stay in Seoul, and the doctor will explain what to expect afterwards and any activities to avoid.
Keeping results
- Stable weight helps maintain contour changes; large fluctuations can alter results.
- Regular movement and strength work support both shape and skin firmness.
- Follow the aftercare advice you are given on the day.
- Every treatment is logged in your Skin Library record, so follow-up sessions can be planned precisely.
Results vary from person to person, and suitability is decided with a doctor at consultation.
The Skin & Body Clinic is on the 1st and 2nd floors of Pagoda Tower, open Monday to Friday 10:00–21:00 and at weekends 10:00–19:00.
Preparing for a body consultation
A body assessment is more useful when the doctor has a clear picture of your history and goals. Before your visit, it helps to think about:
- Which area matters most. Focusing on one or two areas at a time usually gives a clearer plan than trying to treat everything.
- Recent weight changes. Tell the doctor if your weight has changed a lot recently or if you are still losing weight, as this affects whether fat reduction or skin firmness should come first.
- Medical history. Mention any surgery in the area, implants, medical conditions and medicines you take.
- What to wear. Comfortable clothing that makes the area easy to examine saves time on the day.

Body contouring: common questions
Will body contouring help me lose weight?
No. Non-surgical contouring is designed to refine specific areas, not to reduce overall body weight. It tends to work best for people who are close to their goal weight.
How does Body Onda work?
Body Onda uses microwave energy to selectively heat fat in the treated area as part of body contouring. The doctor assesses whether your area is suitable and explains what to expect.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on the area, the tissue and your goals. The doctor recommends a schedule after examining you. Ask us on WhatsApp for a personalised quote.
Can I do this during a short stay in Seoul?
Often a first session can be fitted into a short stay. Results develop gradually, so share your dates on WhatsApp and the doctor will suggest a realistic plan.
