Stubborn localised fat treatment in Seoul

Some pockets of fat stay put however well you eat and train. We assess whether the fullness really is fat, then use targeted, non-surgical contouring at the right depth.

What stubborn localised fat is

Localised fat is a small, defined area of fullness that seems resistant to diet and exercise. On the face, the most common areas are under the chin and along the lower cheeks, where extra fullness can blur the jawline and make the face look rounder. On the body, people often mention the abdomen, flanks, upper arms, back and thighs.

These areas are not a sign that you are doing anything wrong. The amount and distribution of fat is strongly influenced by genetics, hormones and age, and some fat cells are simply more resistant to being used for energy than others. That is why many people with a healthy weight still have one or two areas they would like to refine.

Which layer is involved

In our 8-layer Skin Architecture model, localised fat sits in the subcutaneous fat layer, between the dermis above and the fascia and muscle below. Getting the diagnosis right matters, because fullness can also come from other layers:

  • Skin laxity. Loose skin can fold and look like a fat pocket, particularly along the jaw or on the abdomen after weight loss.
  • Muscle. A large chewing muscle can make the lower face look wide — a different issue, covered on our square jaw page.
  • Descended tissue. On the face, fat that has slipped downwards with age can collect at the jawline, which is better addressed with lifting.

How Obliv approaches localised fat

  • Assessment first. A director examines the area and determines how much of the fullness is fat, how much is lax skin and whether muscle contributes. This decides which treatment, if any, is right.
  • Face: Onda. Onda uses microwave energy to selectively heat fat in areas such as under the chin and below the cheeks, helping to refine the lower face contour. See also our double chin page.
  • Body: Body Onda. Body Onda applies the same principle to body areas as part of body contouring .
  • Firming the skin. When fat reduction is combined with mild laxity, tightening treatments such as radiofrequency may be added so the skin follows the new contour more neatly.
  • Shape, not just size. For the face, contouring the fat is often combined with jawline definition so the overall shape looks balanced.

What to expect

Non-surgical fat treatments work gradually rather than giving an instant change, and most people need more than one session. Sensations of heat during treatment and temporary redness, swelling or tenderness afterwards are common. Your doctor will explain how many sessions are likely to be useful, how far apart they should be and when changes usually become visible for the area treated. Results vary from person to person, and these treatments are not a substitute for weight loss.

Supporting your results

  • Keep a stable weight, since large changes affect fat distribution.
  • Stay active and well hydrated.
  • Follow any aftercare advice for the treated area, such as avoiding very hot saunas immediately after.

Visiting from abroad

A first session and assessment can be done during a short stay, and we can advise on timing for further sessions if you are returning to Seoul. Message us on WhatsApp with photos of the area and your travel dates.

Is non-surgical fat reduction right for me?

Targeted fat treatments work best for a specific kind of person and goal. You may be a good candidate if:

  • You are at or near a stable, healthy weight and want to refine one or two areas
  • The fullness feels soft and pinchable rather than firm or loose
  • You are happy with a gradual change rather than an immediate one
  • You are prepared to keep a steady routine of activity and eating to maintain the result

Your doctor may suggest a different approach if the main issue is loose skin, muscle size or tissue that has descended with age, or if you are hoping for significant overall weight loss, which these treatments are not designed to provide. In those cases, lifting, tightening or a combination may be more effective. If your interest is mainly the face, see slimmer face ; for the body, our body contour goals page explains how sessions are planned.

Questions about stubborn localised fat

  • Is this a weight-loss treatment?

No. Onda and Body Onda are designed to refine specific areas of fat, not to reduce overall body weight. They work best for people close to a stable, healthy weight.

  • How do I know if it is fat or loose skin?

That is exactly what the consultation is for. A director examines the area and explains whether fat reduction, skin tightening or a combination is likely to help most.

  • Is there downtime?

Most people return to normal activities soon after. Temporary redness, swelling or tenderness in the treated area is common and settles on its own.

  • How many sessions will I need?

It depends on the area and how much change you would like. The doctor will suggest a plan at consultation; results vary from person to person.
