Pico Toning in Seoul
Pico toning uses a pico laser in gentle, even passes across the face to help brighten uneven tone and soften pigment over a course of sessions.
What pico toning is and how it works
“Toning” describes a way of using a laser: lower, evenly distributed energy across the whole face, repeated over several sessions, rather than a single intensive treatment aimed at one spot. Pico toning applies this approach with a picosecond pico laser, which delivers extremely short pulses designed to break pigment into very fine particles the body can gradually clear.
At Obliv Clinic, our pico laser is PICOALEX . Used at higher settings, it targets deeper, stubborn pigment and tattoos; used as toning, it offers a gentler, cumulative way to work on overall tone. Your doctor decides which approach — or which combination — suits your skin.
Which layer it targets and who it suits
Our doctors plan treatment with an 8-layer Skin Architecture model: epidermis, upper dermis, full-thickness dermis, lower dermis, subcutaneous fat, fascia, muscle and bone. Pigment can sit in the epidermis, the dermis or both, and the depth determines how it is treated. Toning is generally aimed at diffuse pigment in the epidermis and upper dermis.
Pico toning may suit you if you have:
- Uneven or patchy skin tone
- Dullness and a lack of clarity
- Light freckles or scattered pigment
- Post-acne marks that have left brownish discolouration
- Melasma, as part of a careful, barrier-first plan

What happens on the day
A director sees you from your first consultation. Mark-Vu imaging can be used to analyse pigment, redness, pores, wrinkles and oil–moisture balance, showing where pigment is concentrated and whether redness also needs attention. Your plan and every session are recorded in your Skin Library, which makes it easy to compare progress over time.
Before main treatments the barrier is reinforced with ceramides and HA. The doctor then performs the toning at settings matched to your skin. The treatment itself is usually quick, and the doctor will discuss comfort with you. Barrier protection care follows.
Downtime, results and aftercare
Toning is generally associated with low downtime, though mild redness can occur and usually settles. Because skin renews on roughly a 28-day cycle and pigment clears gradually, results build over a series of sessions rather than all at once. Results vary from person to person.
- Apply SPF50+ every day after laser
- Use your pH-5.5-matched prescribed home care
- Avoid strong exfoliating products unless your doctor approves them
Often combined with
Where redness accompanies pigment, the doctor may suggest BRIGHTONE . For long-term melasma maintenance, Nobleen low-energy laser toning is another option. Skin boosters or Mirajet can be added to support hydration and glow.
Is it right for me?
Pico toning is a gradual approach. If pigment is deep or very stubborn, the doctor may recommend PICOALEX at different settings. If a spot looks unusual, it is assessed first and referred for proper medical evaluation where needed.
For international visitors
Low downtime means pico toning fits easily into a short trip, and many visitors start a course in Seoul and continue on later visits. The clinic is about 5 minutes on foot from Jonggak and Euljiro 1-ga stations, close to Myeongdong, and you can book in English on WhatsApp.
A typical course of pico toning
Because toning works by gradual, cumulative improvement, it helps to think of it as a course rather than a single appointment. The exact number of sessions and spacing are set by your doctor, but most plans follow a similar shape.
- Before the first session: a director assesses your skin, Mark-Vu imaging maps pigment and redness, and any barrier weakness is addressed first
- The active phase: regular sessions spaced to work with the skin's roughly 28-day renewal cycle, with progress compared in your Skin Library
- Review: the doctor checks how pigment has responded and adjusts settings, or adds another option such as BRIGHTONE if redness is also present
- Maintenance: occasional sessions and strict sun protection help keep tone even, as pigment can return with UV exposure and hormonal changes
If you visit Seoul regularly, sessions can be spread across trips, and the team can help you plan dates on WhatsApp. See also our skin maintenance plan and flying after laser guide.

Pico toning: common questions
What is the difference between pico toning and a pico laser spot treatment?
Both can use the same pico laser. Toning spreads gentle energy evenly across the face over several sessions to improve overall tone, while spot treatment uses targeted settings for specific, deeper pigment. Your doctor chooses based on your skin.
How many sessions will I need?
Toning works cumulatively, and skin renews on roughly a 28-day cycle, so a series is usually recommended. The doctor will suggest a number and interval at consultation.
Can I wear make-up afterwards?
Your doctor will advise based on how your skin looks after treatment. In general, keep products gentle and always apply SPF50+.
How much does pico toning cost?
It depends on the number of sessions and any add-ons. Ask us on WhatsApp for a personalised quote.
