What good skin means for most men
Most men who come to us are not looking for a dramatic change. They want skin that looks less shiny by midday, pores that are less noticeable, fewer breakouts and marks, and a face that looks rested rather than tired. Many also want something that does not require a ten-step routine at home.
That is a sensible goal, and it is very achievable with a clear plan. At Obliv Clinic Seoul Origin the plan starts with understanding your skin rather than picking a popular treatment, and a director sees you from the first consultation.
Which layers are involved
We use an 8-layer Skin Architecture model — epidermis, upper dermis, full-thickness dermis, lower dermis, subcutaneous fat, fascia, muscle and bone — to work out where each concern begins. For men's skin, the common themes are:
- Epidermis: oiliness, congestion, irritation from shaving, and sun-related pigment.
- Upper dermis: enlarged-looking pores, redness and fine texture.
- Deeper dermis: acne scarring and loss of firmness over time.
Your first visit includes Mark-Vu imaging , which analyses pores, pigment, wrinkles, redness and oil–moisture balance. Many men are surprised to find that skin that feels oily is actually dehydrated underneath, which changes how it should be treated.
Building a plan
Start with the barrier
Daily shaving, sun exposure and harsh cleansers can all weaken the skin barrier. We typically begin with barrier reinforcement using ceramides and hyaluronic acid, and you leave with prescribed home care matched to pH 5.5 — usually just a few products.
Pores and oil
Potenza RF microneedling is often used for enlarged-looking pores and acne scars, with short downtime. Our Pore Refining Program brings the relevant steps together.
Breakouts and scars
Active acne is examined by a doctor first so the right treatment can be chosen. For scars that remain, a typical course is three to five sessions of Potenza or CO2 laser, four to six weeks apart. CO2 reaches further but needs more recovery time.
Tone and sun damage
Pigment from years outdoors may be treated with options such as PICOALEX for deeper pigment, BRIGHTONE where redness is also present, or Nobleen toning for maintenance. Daily SPF50+ is essential afterwards.
Looking less tired
Where the concern is firmness or contour, energy-based lifting or Botox for forehead lines and frown lines may be part of the plan. These are covered in more detail on our men's anti-ageing page.
Timeline before a trip or event
Barrier care and gentle toning can begin straight away. Pore and scar work is usually staged in sessions several weeks apart, so if you are visiting Seoul once, the doctor may suggest starting a course and continuing at home or on a return trip. Botox takes about two weeks to reach its peak. Results vary from person to person.
Keeping results
- Use the prescribed cleanser and moisturiser consistently; simple is fine.
- Wear sunscreen every day, not just on holiday.
- Shave with a clean, sharp blade and avoid alcohol-heavy aftershaves on treated skin.
- Book maintenance at the intervals suggested; every session is kept in your Skin Library record.
A simple routine that fits around shaving
Home care does not need to be complicated to work. For most men, the doctor suggests a short routine built around the prescribed, pH-5.5-matched products:
- Morning: a gentle cleanser, a light moisturiser, then SPF50+ before you leave the house.
- Shaving: shave after cleansing, when the skin is soft, and apply moisturiser rather than a stinging aftershave.
- Evening: cleanse away oil, sunscreen and city dust, then moisturise again.
- After a laser session: skip scrubs and strong active products until the doctor says your skin has settled.
If you would like to take products home from Seoul, our page on skincare to bring home explains how prescribed home care works for international visitors. Results vary from person to person.

Men's skin: common questions
Do men need different treatments from women?
The devices are largely the same, but the plan often differs. Oiliness, shaving irritation and sun-related pigment are common themes, and the doctor sets depth and settings for your skin after examining it.
I have oily skin. Why do I need moisturiser?
Oily skin can still be dehydrated, and a weakened barrier can make shine and irritation worse. Mark-Vu analysis shows your oil–moisture balance so the home care can be matched to it.
Can I shave after treatment?
It depends on the treatment. After lasers or microneedling the doctor will usually advise waiting before shaving the treated area. You will receive specific instructions on the day.
Can I do this during a business trip?
Often, yes. Weekday hours run until 21:00 for the Skin, Body and Scalp clinics. Tell us your schedule on WhatsApp and we will suggest options that fit it.
