Smaller-looking pores in Seoul

Pores cannot be removed, but they can look finer. Whether yours are stretched by oil, loosened by collagen loss or marked by old acne changes the plan — so we diagnose before we treat.

What smaller pores really means

Every pore is the opening of a hair follicle and oil gland, and every face has thousands of them. They are part of healthy skin, and no treatment removes them. What can change is how visible they are. Pores look larger when they are stretched by oil and congestion, when the skin around them loses the collagen that holds them tight, or when acne has left an uneven edge. The goal is a finer-looking surface, where pores fade into the skin rather than standing out — especially on the cheeks and nose.

It helps to know which type you have. Oily, congested pores tend to be round and concentrated around the nose and central face. Pores linked to ageing often look elongated or teardrop-shaped on the cheeks, because the skin around them has started to slacken.

Which layers are involved

In our 8-layer Skin Architecture model, pore visibility involves two main layers:

  • Epidermis: the pore opening, surface congestion and the barrier. Harsh cleansing can strip the barrier, which may lead skin to produce more oil.
  • Upper and full-thickness dermis: the collagen and elastic support around each pore. When it weakens, pores stretch and sag.

A director examines your skin and Mark-Vu imaging analyses pores along with oil–moisture balance, redness and pigment, so we can see whether oil, laxity or scarring is the main factor.

Building a plan

Most pore plans combine a few steps in order:

  • Balance the barrier. We reinforce the barrier with ceramides and hyaluronic acid before main treatments, and protect it after. A calmer barrier often means more balanced oil. See barrier care .
  • Tighten around the pore. Potenza RF microneedling delivers radiofrequency energy through fine needles to stimulate collagen around pores and improve texture, with relatively short downtime. It is the core of our Pore Refining Program .
  • Firm the surface. Sofwave and ALLTITE work on the upper dermis to improve texture and give immediate firmness, which can help pores linked to laxity.
  • Hydrate and support. Skin boosters and Mirajet improve hydration, which helps the skin around pores look plumper and smoother.
  • Deeper texture. If pores sit alongside acne scars, CO2 resurfacing may be considered, but it needs a recovery period.

If active acne is part of the picture, a doctor examines and treats it first.

Timeline before a trip or event

Collagen around pores rebuilds gradually, and skin renews on a cycle of about 28 days. Most people need a series of sessions to see a steady change, so starting two to three months before an event is ideal. Hydrating treatments can give a smoother look sooner and fit well closer to the date. If you are in Seoul for a short stay, a consultation and a first Potenza session can start the process, and we can suggest how to continue later.

Keeping your results

  • Cleanse gently with a pH-5.5-matched cleanser rather than stripping the skin.
  • Use the home care we prescribe to keep oil and hydration balanced.
  • Wear SPF50+ daily — UV breaks down the collagen that supports pores.
  • Consider periodic maintenance sessions to keep collagen stimulated.

Results vary from person to person. Every session is recorded in your Skin Library so your plan can be adjusted over time.

Habits that can make pores look larger

Some everyday habits work against a finer-looking surface, and changing them supports any treatment plan:

  • Squeezing or using pore strips often: this can stretch the opening and irritate the skin around it.
  • Over-cleansing or scrubbing: stripping oil can leave the barrier dry and unsettled, so the skin may respond by producing more oil.
  • Skipping moisturiser on oily skin: dehydrated skin often looks rougher, which makes pores more noticeable.
  • Going without sunscreen: UV breaks down the collagen that keeps pores tight.

If congestion and blackheads are your main concern, our page on blackheads and congested pores explains how the doctor approaches them. Results vary from person to person.

Questions about smaller-looking pores

  • Can pores be permanently shrunk?

Pores are a normal part of skin and cannot be removed. Treatment can help them look finer by improving collagen support, oil balance and texture. Results vary from person to person and benefit from maintenance.

  • Why are my pores bigger on my cheeks than on my nose?

Pores around the nose are often linked to oil and congestion, while cheek pores can look larger as the skin loses collagen and starts to slacken. The two types respond to slightly different approaches, which is why we examine your skin first.

  • How much downtime does Potenza have?

Potenza generally has short downtime, with some redness that settles over a short period. Your doctor will explain what to expect for your skin before treatment.

  • How much does pore treatment cost?

It depends on the treatments in your plan and the number of sessions. Ask us on WhatsApp for a personalised quote.
