Choosing a clinic in Seoul
Seoul has many skin clinics, and from abroad they can look alike. These are the questions worth asking — of any clinic, including us — before you book.
Look beyond the device list
Many clinics advertise the same well-known names: Ultherapy, Thermage, Botox, filler, pico lasers. A long list of devices tells you what a clinic owns, not how well it decides what you need. Two people with the same complaint — say, sagging along the jaw — may need quite different treatment depending on whether the change begins in the skin, the fat, the support tissue or the bone beneath. The most useful question is not “Do you have this machine?” but “How will you decide what is right for me?”
Six questions to ask any clinic
1. Who will examine me?
Ask whether a doctor sees you at the consultation, or whether you will mainly speak with a coordinator. At Obliv, a director sees you from the first consultation and is responsible for the plan.
2. How will my skin be assessed?
A good assessment combines a careful examination with objective information. We use Mark-Vu imaging to analyse pores, pigment, wrinkles, redness and oil–moisture balance, and then decide which of the eight skin layers your concern starts in. Depth is decided first, then the device. You can read more in skin diagnosis explained .
3. Will the plan be explained clearly in a language I understand?
You should understand what is proposed, why, what the alternatives are, what downtime to expect and what it will cost — before you agree. Ask whether explanations and aftercare instructions are available in English. See safety and consent .
4. How do you protect the skin around treatment?
Treatment is only part of the result. Ask what the clinic does before and after. We reinforce the skin barrier with ingredients such as ceramides and hyaluronic acid before main treatments, protect it afterwards and prescribe pH-5.5-matched home care.
5. What happens after I fly home?
Many results develop over weeks or months. Ask how you can reach the clinic after your visit and whether your treatment is recorded. At Obliv, you can message us on WhatsApp, and every treatment is stored in your Skin Library for future visits.
6. Will you tell me if something is not right for me?
A trustworthy clinic will sometimes recommend less, a different order or waiting. Be cautious of anyone who promises guaranteed results or pushes you to decide on the spot. Results vary from person to person.
Practical points for visitors
- Location. A central clinic near your hotel makes follow-up visits easy. Ours is in Jongno-gu, about 5 minutes on foot from Jonggak, Jongno 3-ga and Euljiro 1-ga stations, with Myeongdong a short walk away.
- Opening hours. Evening and weekend hours help on a tight schedule. Our Skin, Body and Scalp clinics open Mon–Fri 10:00–21:00 and Sat–Sun 10:00–19:00.
- Booking channel. Check that you can communicate easily before you arrive. We take bookings on WhatsApp in English.
- Quotes. Ask how prices are worked out. Because plans depend on diagnosis, we give personalised quotes rather than a fixed menu — ask us on WhatsApp.
- Range of care. If you have other needs, it can help to have them under one roof. Obliv also has a Scalp Clinic, a Footcare & Nail Clinic and BodyLab rehabilitation medicine in the same building.
Warning signs
- No doctor involvement before treatment is decided
- Guarantees of specific results or claims a treatment cures a condition
- Pressure to book extra treatments on the day
- Vague answers about side effects, aftercare or cost
Whichever clinic you choose, take your time, ask questions and choose the one that explains things best.
Comparing clinics from abroad: a simple method
If you are deciding between two or three clinics before your trip, send each one the same short message: your main concern, how long you will be in Seoul and whether you have any flights or events soon after. Then compare the replies rather than the advertising.
- Did they ask questions back? A clinic that asks about your skin history, medications and travel dates is already thinking about suitability.
- Did they mention downtime and timing? This matters when you fly home within days — see downtime and travel .
- Did they avoid promises? Honest replies say the plan is confirmed only after a doctor examines you.
- Was the reply clear? If it is hard to follow by message, aftercare may be too.
You can start this comparison with us on WhatsApp .

Questions about choosing a clinic
Should I choose a clinic based on its devices?
Devices matter, but how a clinic decides which one to use matters more. Look for careful diagnosis and a doctor who explains why a particular treatment suits your skin.
Can I talk to the clinic before I travel?
Yes. At Obliv you can message us on WhatsApp in English with photos and travel dates, and we will suggest options and send a personalised quote.
Who are the doctors at Obliv?
Our team includes Park Young-jin (Chief Director), Yang Myeong-hyeon (Dermatology Chief Director), Kim Yun-gi (Education Director) and directors Park Hyun-soo, Lee Jong-hyeok, Shim Ho-yeon and Oh Ye-bin. You can read more on our About page.
What if I want a second opinion?
That is entirely reasonable. Take your time, compare explanations and choose the clinic you feel understands your skin and your goals best.
Ask us how we would plan your care
Message us on WhatsApp in English. Obliv Clinic Seoul Origin, Pagoda Tower, 93 Cheonggyecheon-ro, Jongno-gu — about 5 minutes on foot from Jonggak and Euljiro 1-ga stations, close to Myeongdong.
