What frown lines are
Frown lines — often called “11 lines” because of their shape — are the vertical creases that form between the eyebrows. Sometimes there is one, sometimes two or three. They deepen when you concentrate, squint at a screen or react to bright light, and over time they can stay visible even when your face is relaxed. Because they sit right in the centre of the face, they strongly affect how others read your mood: many people come in saying they look tired, cross or anxious when they feel perfectly fine.
Why they form and which layer is involved
In our 8-layer Skin Architecture model, frown lines are driven mainly from the muscle layer. A small group of muscles pulls the brows down and together; habits such as concentrating, frowning at screens or squinting in the sun make them work hard all day. Each contraction folds the skin, and repeated folding gradually marks the dermis , where collagen is already declining by about 1% a year from around the age of 20. UV damage speeds this up. A dehydrated epidermis then makes the creases look sharper.
The longer the lines are left, the more they shift from “dynamic” (only when you move) to “static” (always there). That is why some people choose to start treatment early, before a line becomes etched in.
How Obliv approaches frown lines
- Diagnosis first. A director examines your brows at rest and while frowning, checks muscle strength and pattern, and Mark-Vu imaging records wrinkles and skin quality.
- Relaxing the muscle. Frown line Botox relaxes the muscles that pull the brows together. With less folding, the lines soften and the skin has a chance to recover. Dosing is tailored to your muscle strength so the result looks natural.
- Improving lines at rest. For lines that remain visible when relaxed, skin boosters and Rejuran support hydration and regeneration in the upper dermis. Your doctor will explain whether any additional option is suitable for a deeply etched line.
- Treating the whole upper face. Frown lines often appear together with forehead wrinkles and crow's feet . Planning them together keeps the brows balanced.
What to expect
Botox usually begins to work within 3–7 days, peaks at around 2 weeks and lasts roughly 4–6 months. On the day, avoid touching the area for 4–6 hours and skip sauna, alcohol and strenuous exercise. There is usually little downtime beyond small injection marks. With regular treatment, many people find that lines which were starting to stay at rest look softer over time, because the skin is folded less often. Deeply etched lines tend to soften rather than vanish, and results vary from person to person.
Caring for your skin between visits
- Wear sunglasses and SPF50+ to reduce squinting and UV damage.
- Notice screen habits — brightness, distance and breaks can reduce frowning.
- Keep skin hydrated with the pH-5.5-matched home care we prescribe.
- Plan top-ups as movement begins to return rather than waiting for lines to deepen again.
Visiting from abroad
Frown line treatment is quick and usually low-downtime, so it fits well into a short stay. Book early in your trip so the effect has time to settle before you fly. Message us on WhatsApp with your travel dates and any previous treatment history.
Your first frown line appointment, step by step
If you have never had Botox before, knowing what happens on the day can make the visit feel easier:
- Consultation. A director asks about your health, medicines and any previous injections, then watches how your brows move when you frown, raise them and relax.
- Planning. The doctor marks the injection points and explains the expected effect, including how much movement will remain.
- Treatment. The injections themselves take only a few minutes. Most people describe a brief pinch.
- Right after. Small bumps or marks usually fade quickly. You can return to sightseeing, but avoid touching the area for 4–6 hours and skip sauna, alcohol and hard exercise that day.
- Two weeks later. This is when the effect peaks and a review is most useful, if your stay allows.

Questions about frown lines
Why are they called 11 lines?
Two vertical creases between the brows look like the number 11. Some people have one line or three, but the cause is the same: muscles that pull the brows together.
Will I still be able to move my brows?
The aim is to relax the frowning movement while keeping natural expression. Your doctor tailors the dose to your muscle strength, and you can ask for a lighter result.
Can Botox remove lines that are there at rest?
Botox can soften them, and with less folding they often look better over time. Deeply etched lines may also benefit from skin boosters or Rejuran. Results vary from person to person.
How soon will I see a difference?
Usually within 3–7 days, with the full effect at around 2 weeks. The result typically lasts around 4–6 months.
