Recessed chin treatment in Seoul

A small or set-back chin can make the nose look larger and the jawline less defined. We assess your whole profile first, then plan a non-surgical approach that brings the lower face into balance.

What a recessed chin is

A recessed or “weak” chin sits further back than the lips and forehead when you look at the face in profile. It is usually a feature of natural bone structure, but it can also become more noticeable with age. Because the chin anchors the lower third of the face, even a small difference changes how the nose, lips, jawline and neck are perceived. People often say their face looks rounder, their profile less defined, or that a double chin seems more obvious than it should.

The aim of treatment is not to create a prominent chin, but to restore balance so the profile reads as harmonious from every angle.

Which layers are involved

Using our 8-layer Skin Architecture model, from epidermis to bone, a recessed chin is mostly a bone -level concern: the projection of the lower jaw sets the starting point. Over time, the jaw bone slowly remodels and the deep fat and support tissue around the chin thin out, so the chin can appear to retreat further. The muscle of the chin can also play a part: when it is overactive, it may create a dimpled, “orange-peel” texture or pull the chin upwards, exaggerating a short chin. Finally, laxity of the skin and lower dermis along the jaw blurs the transition between chin and neck.

How Obliv approaches a recessed chin

  • Profile analysis. A director looks at the chin in relation to your nose, lips, jaw and neck, from the front and the side. This shows whether the chin needs forward projection, more length, or simply a smoother contour.
  • Structural support close to the bone. Following a dual-plane approach, support is placed just above the bone first. Chin filler can add projection and shape. Hyaluronic acid filler typically lasts around 6–18 months; CaHA filler , which is firmer and also stimulates collagen, around 12–18 months.
  • Muscle last. If a tense chin muscle is creating dimpling or pulling, Botox may be used to relax it. It begins working within 3–7 days, peaks around 2 weeks and lasts roughly 4–6 months.
  • Defining the jawline. A chin often looks best when the jawline is considered too. Depending on what we find, we may suggest jawline Botox for a wide jaw, or energy-based lifting such as Onda for fullness under the chin.

What to expect

Chin filler shows a visible change on the day. Mild swelling, tenderness or bruising can occur and usually settles within days. Avoid touching or pressing the chin for 4–6 hours, and skip saunas, alcohol and strenuous exercise on the day. Some people prefer to build projection in two stages for the most natural result. Results vary from person to person, and the doctor will talk you through what is realistic for your anatomy.

Looking after the result

  • Avoid sleeping face-down for the first few nights if your doctor advises it.
  • Do not massage the chin unless you have been told to.
  • Let us know if you notice anything unusual, such as increasing pain or colour change.

Visiting from abroad

Chin contouring is a popular choice for short stays because the result is visible straight away. If you are combining it with other treatments, we will suggest a sensible order across your trip. Send side-profile photos and your travel dates on WhatsApp and we will help you plan.

Preparing for your consultation

A recessed chin is judged mainly in profile, so a little preparation helps the doctor plan accurately:

  • Photos. Take side-profile photos on both sides with your head level and lips relaxed, plus one from the front, in daylight. These are also useful to send on WhatsApp before you book.
  • Your priorities. Think about what bothers you most — projection, a short chin, a soft jawline or fullness under the chin. This helps the doctor decide whether filler, Botox or a contouring treatment should come first.
  • Medical history. Tell us about previous filler, any dental or jaw treatment, and medicines that affect bruising.
  • Timing. Avoid booking right before an important event or a flight, so any mild swelling has time to settle.

Many people find that a balanced chin also makes the jawline look sharper. If your goal is a slimmer lower face overall, see V-line face .

Questions about a recessed chin

  • Can filler replace a chin implant?

Filler can add a meaningful amount of projection for many people, without surgery. It is temporary, so it needs topping up. If your chin needs more change than filler can safely give, the doctor will tell you honestly.

  • Which filler is used for the chin?

Both hyaluronic acid and CaHA fillers can be used. CaHA is firmer and also stimulates collagen, while HA is more adjustable. The doctor will recommend the right option at consultation.

  • Will it make my face look longer?

The plan is based on your proportions, so the goal is balance rather than length. Projection and length are adjusted separately, depending on what your profile needs.

  • How soon can I fly after chin filler?

Many people fly within a few days. We usually suggest treatment early in your stay so any swelling has time to settle and we can check the result before you leave.
