What crepey skin is
Crepey skin has a fine, crinkled texture that resembles crepe paper. It is most often seen under the eyes, on the eyelids, the neck, the décolletage and the cheeks when you smile, and it can also appear on the arms and knees. Unlike a single deep wrinkle, crepiness is spread across a whole area: the skin looks thin, loses its bounce and gathers into many tiny folds when it moves.
It can make the face look older or more tired than you feel, and makeup tends to settle into the texture. The good news is that skin quality is something that can be supported and improved over time with the right plan.
Why it happens: which layers are involved
In our 8-layer Skin Architecture model, crepey skin is mainly a story of the upper dermis and full-thickness dermis , with the epidermis also playing a part:
- Collagen loss. Collagen falls by roughly 1% a year from about the age of 20, faster after menopause. The dermis becomes thinner and less able to spring back.
- UV damage. Ultraviolet light breaks down collagen and elastic fibres, which is why sun-exposed areas such as the neck and chest are often affected first.
- Dehydration and barrier weakness. When the surface barrier is weak, the skin loses moisture and fine lines become more visible.
- Weight changes. Losing volume underneath can leave skin with less support, so it folds more easily.
How Obliv approaches crepey skin
- Diagnosis first. A director examines the area and Mark-Vu imaging helps assess wrinkles and oil–moisture balance, so we can see how much is dehydration and how much is structural thinning.
- Barrier and hydration. We reinforce the barrier with ceramides and hyaluronic acid. Skin boosters — with HA, PDRN, exosomes or growth factors — and Mirajet needle-free delivery can improve hydration and elasticity relatively quickly.
- Regeneration of thin skin. Rejuran and exosome therapy support the skin's regeneration environment, which is especially useful in delicate areas such as under the eyes and on the neck.
- Rebuilding collagen. For a deeper, longer-lasting change, collagen stimulators such as PLLA encourage fibroblasts to produce new collagen. Results start around 1–3 months, peak at 3–6 months and can last roughly 12–24 months.
- Tightening with energy. Radiofrequency devices such as Sofwave , which targets the upper dermis at 1.5 mm, or Thermage , which heats the whole dermis, can help with texture and firmness.
What to expect
Crepey skin improves gradually. Hydrating injections give a quick freshness, while collagen-based changes build over months. Most of these treatments involve limited downtime — small injection marks or mild redness are common and usually fade within a day or two. A series of sessions is typical, and results vary from person to person.
Caring for your skin between visits
- Use SPF50+ every day, including on the neck and chest.
- Moisturise with barrier-supporting products and follow our pH-5.5-matched home care.
- Avoid harsh scrubs and very hot water, which dry thin skin further.
Visiting from abroad
Skin boosters and Rejuran fit well into short stays. If collagen stimulators or energy treatments are recommended, we can start in Seoul and advise on timing for later sessions. Send photos and your travel dates on WhatsApp and we will help you plan.
A 3–6 month view of improvement
Because crepey skin is improved by rebuilding quality rather than by a single quick fix, it helps to picture the plan over several months:
- First weeks: barrier care and hydrating injections such as skin boosters can make skin feel plumper and look fresher fairly soon.
- 1–3 months: if a collagen stimulator or energy treatment is part of the plan, gradual firming begins as new collagen forms.
- 3–6 months: collagen-based changes typically reach their peak, and the doctor reviews whether further sessions or maintenance are worthwhile.
Throughout, daily SPF50+ protects the collagen you are rebuilding. If thinning is your main concern, our page on thinning skin explains more, and firmer skin covers longer-term planning.

Questions about crepey skin
Is crepey skin the same as wrinkles?
Not quite. Wrinkles are individual lines, while crepey skin is a fine, crinkled texture across an area caused by thinning of the dermis. That is why treatments focus on improving skin quality overall.
Can creams fix crepey skin?
Good skincare and daily sunscreen help protect and hydrate the skin, but they work mostly on the surface. Treatments that support collagen in the dermis can help improve thickness and elasticity further.
Can you treat crepey skin under the eyes?
Yes. The under-eye area is delicate, so we usually favour gentle regenerative options such as Rejuran or skin boosters. The doctor will choose the right approach after examining the area.
How many sessions will I need?
Most people benefit from a course rather than a single visit, because collagen builds over time. Your doctor will suggest a schedule; results vary from person to person.
