PLLA Collagen Stimulator in Seoul

PLLA is a collagen stimulator that works quietly in the background, helping restore firmness and a softer fullness over the months after treatment.

What PLLA is and how it works

PLLA (poly-L-lactic acid) is an injectable collagen stimulator. It is not designed to give an instant filled look. Instead, once placed in the skin, it sets off a controlled foreign-body response that activates fibroblasts — the cells responsible for making collagen. Over the following months your skin builds new collagen, while the PLLA itself is gradually broken down and absorbed.

The result is an improvement that comes from your own tissue. Many people like this because the change feels natural: friends notice that you look well rather than that you have had something done.

Why collagen matters

Collagen is the main structural protein in the dermis. Levels fall by roughly 1% a year from around age 20, the decline speeds up after menopause, and UV exposure breaks collagen down further. The visible signs are thinner skin, softening contours, crepey texture and a gradual loss of the fullness that once supported the face.

Which layer it targets and who it suits

Our doctors use an 8-layer Skin Architecture model — epidermis, upper dermis, full-thickness dermis, lower dermis, subcutaneous fat, fascia, muscle and bone — to decide where a concern starts. PLLA works in the dermis and the layers just beneath it, supporting structure where collagen has thinned.

PLLA may suit you if you have:

  • Gradual loss of firmness or a slightly deflated look
  • Thinning skin that has lost bounce
  • Early hollowing or softening contours
  • A preference for slow, natural-looking change over months

Prevention tends to be the focus in your 20s, maintenance in your 30s, and recovery in your 40s and beyond, where energy treatment, collagen stimulation and volume are often combined. Related reading: facial volume loss and loss of elasticity .

What happens on the day

A director sees you from the first consultation, assesses your skin and facial structure, may use Mark-Vu imaging, and explains whether PLLA or another stimulator suits you better. The plan is stored in your Skin Library.

The skin is cleansed, comfort options are discussed, and PLLA is injected at the depth planned. The doctor may massage the area afterwards and will explain any home massage or aftercare steps.

Downtime, results and how long they last

Temporary swelling, bruising or a slightly lumpy feeling can occur and generally settle. Because results depend on collagen formation, they develop step by step:

  • Changes typically begin around 1–3 months
  • The effect tends to peak at around 3–6 months
  • Results typically last around 12–24 months

The number of sessions and the outcome vary from person to person; your doctor will advise on spacing if more than one session is recommended.

Often combined with

PLLA pairs well with energy lifting such as Thermage FLX or OLIGIO X , which tighten the dermis with heat while PLLA builds collagen support. Our Energy Lifting + Collagen Stimulator programme brings the two together. Where immediate volume is needed, filler may be added.

Is it right for me?

If you need a visible change straight away — for an event this week, for example — PLLA alone is not the right tool; filler or other options may suit better. If your skin mainly needs hydration and glow, a skin booster may be enough. Please mention autoimmune conditions, pregnancy, previous injectables and any medication at consultation.

For international visitors

The appointment itself is short, and the main effect develops after you fly home, which makes PLLA a practical choice for visitors. The clinic is about 5 minutes on foot from Jonggak and Euljiro 1-ga stations, close to Myeongdong, and our team can plan your visit with you in English on WhatsApp.

Aftercare in the first week

The first few days after PLLA are mostly about letting the skin settle and following your doctor's instructions closely, as these help the product distribute evenly.

  • Avoid touching or pressing the treated area for 4–6 hours, unless you have been asked to massage it
  • If your doctor recommends home massage, follow the timing and technique you were shown
  • Skip saunas, alcohol and strenuous exercise on the day of treatment
  • Expect some swelling or tenderness at first; this usually eases as the days pass
  • Message the clinic if anything feels unusual or does not improve

Visitors flying home soon after can read our guide to flying after injectables , and the team can arrange a follow-up from abroad on WhatsApp.

PLLA collagen stimulator: common questions

  • Will I see a difference immediately?

Not much at first. PLLA works by stimulating new collagen, so changes usually begin around 1–3 months and build towards a peak at around 3–6 months. Results vary from person to person.

  • PLLA or PCL — which is better?

Neither is better for everyone. Both stimulate collagen and then dissolve; the doctor recommends one based on your skin, the area and what you want to achieve.

  • Do I need more than one session?

Some people do, depending on their skin and goals. The doctor will tell you at consultation and suggest suitable spacing if a further session makes sense.

  • How much does PLLA cost?

It depends on the amount and areas treated. Ask us on WhatsApp for a personalised quote.
