Treatment for flattened cheekbones in Seoul

The high point of the cheek catches light and gives the face its lift. When that contour flattens, we restore it with support placed at the right depth, aiming for definition that still looks like you.

What flattened cheekbones look like

A well-defined cheek has a soft high point, usually just below and to the side of the eye, that reflects light and creates gentle shadows beneath. When that contour flattens, the face can look broader, wider at the lower half or simply less lifted. Makeup highlighters stop having the same effect, and photos taken from three-quarter angles may look less defined than they used to.

Flat cheekbones can be a natural feature, but more often they develop gradually with age, weight loss or intense training. They are also closely linked to other concerns: a drooping midface , hollow cheeks and deeper nasolabial folds often start with lost support at the cheekbone.

Which layers are involved

Using our 8-layer Skin Architecture model, from epidermis to bone, cheek contour depends mostly on the deeper layers:

  • Bone. The cheekbone is the scaffold. With age it slowly remodels and loses some projection.
  • Deep fat. The deep fat pads that sit on the cheekbone shrink, so the high point loses its fullness.
  • Support tissue and fascia. As ligaments loosen, the remaining fat slides downwards, emptying the upper cheek and loading the lower face.
  • Dermis. Collagen falls by roughly 1% a year from around 20, so the skin over the cheek also drapes less firmly.

How Obliv approaches flattened cheekbones

  • Contour mapping. A director studies your face at rest, smiling and from several angles to find where the highlight should naturally sit for your bone structure. Copying a standard template rarely looks natural.
  • Support close to the bone first. Following our dual-plane approach, structural support goes just above the bone, then into the fat layer, with muscle considered last. Cheek filler can help restore projection; HA filler typically lasts around 6–18 months, while CaHA filler lasts around 12–18 months and also stimulates collagen.
  • Gradual volume through collagen. PCL or PLLA collagen stimulators trigger new collagen production over time. Results start from about 1–3 months, peak at 3–6 months and can last around 12–24 months.
  • Lift and volume together. JAMBER , a spring-like PDO thread, can add lift and some volume while encouraging collagen and ligament support.
  • Firmer skin on top. Where the skin is lax, energy-based lifting can be combined to firm the overlying layers.

What to expect

Filler and threads show a change on the day, while collagen stimulators work gradually. Mild swelling, bruising or tenderness is possible, and collagen stimulators may cause temporary lumpiness. On the day, avoid touching the area for 4–6 hours and skip saunas, alcohol and strenuous exercise. Results vary from person to person, and we always aim for balance rather than dramatic volume.

Keeping results

  • Use SPF50+ daily to protect collagen.
  • Keep a steady weight where possible, as large changes affect facial volume.
  • Plan top-ups in line with the treatment you chose.

Visiting from abroad

Cheek filler is well suited to short trips because results are immediate. If collagen stimulators are recommended, we can start the course in Seoul and advise you on timing for later sessions. Send photos from the front and at an angle, with your travel dates, on WhatsApp.

How cheek contour connects to the rest of the face

The upper cheek acts like a support beam for the midface. When it loses projection, the effects rarely stay in one place. Tissue that used to rest on the cheekbone moves downwards, which can deepen the fold beside the nose, add weight to the jaw and make the area under the eyes look more hollow or tired.

This is why we often treat cheek contour first when someone asks about lower-face concerns. Restoring support at the cheekbone can soften the appearance of nearby folds without placing product directly into them, which tends to look more natural. In practice, a plan might begin with support near the bone, followed by collagen stimulation for skin quality and, if needed, energy lifting for firmness.

If you have also noticed under-eye hollows or heaviness along the jaw , mention it at consultation so the doctor can assess the whole face together.

Questions about flattened cheekbones

  • Will cheek filler make my face look puffy?

Not when it is placed at the right depth and in a measured amount. The goal is to restore a natural high point, not to add fullness everywhere. We often prefer a conservative first session.

  • Filler or collagen stimulator?

Filler gives an immediate change, which suits short stays. Collagen stimulators build gradually and may last longer. The doctor will recommend the right option, or a combination, at consultation.

  • Can it help my nasolabial folds too?

Restoring support at the cheekbone may soften the folds below, because they are often a result of descended cheek volume. The doctor will assess whether additional treatment is needed.

  • How long does it last?

HA filler typically lasts about 6–18 months, CaHA about 12–18 months, and collagen stimulators roughly 12–24 months. Results vary from person to person.
