Cheek filler in Seoul

The cheeks hold up much of the midface. When they lose support, the face can look flatter, more tired and heavier lower down. Cheek filler restores that support from the deep layers first, for a natural, lifted look.

What cheek filler is

Cheek filler uses an injectable gel — usually hyaluronic acid (HA) , or sometimes CaHA for firmer structural support — to restore volume and shape to the cheek and midface. The goal is not "bigger cheeks" but returning the support and soft curves that the face had before volume was lost, or creating gentle balance where the cheekbones are naturally flat.

Why the cheeks lose support

Facial ageing happens from the inside out. The bone of the midface gradually changes, the deep fat pads that sit over it shrink, and the support tissue that holds them weakens. As a result, the fat above starts to descend. The cheek looks flatter at the top, while fullness gathers lower down — deepening the nasolabial folds , creating shadows under the eyes and making the lower face look heavier.

This is why simply filling a fold beside the mouth often looks unnatural: the real cause sits higher and deeper, in the cheek.

Which layers are involved and how Obliv plans it

In our 8-layer Skin Architecture model — epidermis, upper dermis, full-thickness dermis, lower dermis, subcutaneous fat, fascia, muscle and bone — cheek filler is placed mainly in the deepest layers. We use a dual-plane approach: first restoring structural support just above the bone at key points of the cheekbone, then refining softness and contour in the fat layer , and addressing muscle last.

Rebuilding the foundation in this way can also give a subtle lifting effect to the tissue below, which sometimes means less product is needed in other areas.

Who it suits

  • Cheeks that have become flatter or hollow with age or weight loss
  • A tired or drawn look in the midface
  • Naturally flat cheekbones and a wish for gentle definition
  • Deepening nasolabial folds caused by midface volume loss

If the midface has dropped mainly because of skin and support-layer laxity rather than volume loss, energy-based lifting or threads such as MINT Lift may be suggested, sometimes alongside filler.

What happens on the day

A director sees you from the first consultation. The doctor studies your face from the front, at an angle and in profile, and in motion, to see where support has been lost and how light falls on the cheeks. The plan and products are recorded in your Skin Library.

After cleansing and numbing, the doctor injects using a fine needle or blunt cannula, checking symmetry as they go. Most people feel pressure rather than pain.

Downtime, results and how long they last

Results are visible straight away. Some swelling for a few days is common, and minor bruising is possible. On the day, avoid touching or pressing the area for 4–6 hours, and skip saunas, alcohol and strenuous exercise.

HA filler typically lasts around 6–18 months, and CaHA around 12–18 months. Results vary from person to person.

Often combined with

Cheek filler is often part of a full-face plan: temple filler for upper-face balance, nasolabial fold filler if a fold remains, and lifting or collagen stimulation for skin quality.

Is it right for me?

Filler is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or with infection in the area. Previous fillers and medical history are reviewed first. If volume is not the main issue, we will suggest a better approach.

Questions worth asking at consultation

Cheek filler works best when you and the doctor agree on the goal before anything is injected. It can help to bring an older photo of yourself, taken in natural light, to show how your midface used to look. Useful questions include:

  • Is my midface concern mainly volume loss, sagging, or a mix of both?
  • Where would support near the bone make the biggest difference for me?
  • Would HA or CaHA suit my cheeks better?
  • Will treating the cheeks change how my nasolabial folds or under-eyes look?

At a glance

  • Products: HA filler, or CaHA for firm support
  • Layers: Above bone first, then fat layer
  • Results visible: Immediately
  • Lasts: HA ~6–18 months; CaHA ~12–18 months
  • Downtime: Swelling for a few days
  • Programme: Volume·Shape

Questions about cheek filler

  • Will cheek filler make my face look wider?

The aim is to restore support and soft contour, not to widen the face. Placement is planned around your bone structure and proportions, and the doctor keeps the result in balance with the rest of the face.

  • Can cheek filler help my nasolabial folds?

Often, yes. When folds deepen because the midface has lost support, restoring the cheek can soften them. If a fold remains, a small amount of filler there may be added.

  • HA or CaHA — which is used for cheeks?

Both can be used. HA is versatile and soft; CaHA is firmer, stimulates collagen and typically lasts around 12–18 months. The doctor chooses based on how much structure you need.

  • How long is the downtime?

Results are visible immediately, with some swelling for a few days and possible minor bruising. Most people return to normal activities the same day.
